WACRAL was originally founded by the Rev Arthur W Shepherd, G3NGF in 1957 as the Huddersfield South Methodist Radio Club, G3LQK, and it became an international organisation in 1958. Originally known as "WAMRAC" - the World Association of Methodist Radio Clubs, it changed its name in 1978 to reflect the ecumenical nature of its membership, and became WACRAL - the World Association of Christian Radio Amateurs and Listeners.

As Christian Radio Amateurs, the association was delighted to be issued with the more modern callsign M1CRA which can be found on the air with WACRAL nets and special events.

Newsletters

Since the founding of the club Newsletters have formed one of the means of communicating with the members. All members receive a quarterly magazine today and we have located some of the earliest copies of the Newsletters which can be viewed by clicking on the links above

Occasionally there are people who stand out and one such was Harold Turner (dec.) G4YRH - where the YRH definitely stood for 'Yorkshire Radio Ham' - either by accident or design! Please click on the tab above to read his obituary. As someone who has met and worked with him on a Special Event Station I can witness to his love for radio and his passion to pass on his enthusiasm to the younger generations.
